You Can Do It Put Your Back Into It
So almost one week down and I'm still going strong!
I had a bit of a rough week because I overdid it last weekend when Mollie joined the gym. I was showing her around the weight machines - going over all the different types and how to read them to know what muscle groups each one works and how to adjust them to maximize your workout safely. Well, I forgot the cardinal rule of any workout - the pre and post workout STRETCHING!!! Yeah, so we did the treadmill, the stationary bike, I attempted the elliptical (which for anyone who wants a good laugh, watch me attempt it!), then we hit the weight machines. We did some ab machines, some thigh machines, then we hit the one that works your glutes. Yeah...that's the one that did me in. My quads locked up for a few days. I was walking like a fool - people who have motor skills handicaps were laughing at me. Stairs? yeah no. Sitting in a chair? painful. Trying to use the "facilities" (I'm trying to keep this blog clean!)?...I should have gotten a medal for the acrobatics that were required to pull that off. I even cashed in on my Christmas Massage from Champ and that didn't help much, though it was enjoyable.
So now things are back to normal. I went to the gym on Tuesday as to not break my stride. It went well. I thought about being a baby and taking the elevator to the 2nd floor where all of the equipment is, but thought, No, that defeats the purpose. I wasn't in so much pain that I couldn't climb the 20 some steps. I even walked down the stairs when I was done - even though I thought I was going to fall on my face...
Friday's workout was pretty good, too. I ran into Champ at the gym, which is always a nice suprise. It's so fun to watch him workout, or rather, watch other guys watch him work out. He makes weight lifting seem so effortless that they just stare in amazement. Of course, he doesn't have to do much work since he's in the maintenance stage of things, but he likes to test himself and reach new limits :)
Me, I just put my head phones on, set the treadmill speed to power walk and start swinging my arms to get my heart pumping. I like to engage my core and try and work in a mini ab workout on the treadmill - with so much work to do, I have to double up whenever I can.
Alli and I are hitting the gym this morning before we have out Goal Setting Session. I feel so blessed to have so many good friends in my life to help and support me through this journey. Thank you to all of you how have been there for me! I'm sure I'll be calling each of you at some point for a pep talk!
xoxo
